Clinical morphostasis
This article was the earliest part (of the morphostasis concept) to develop. It evolved on the realisation that adjuvant arthritis mimicked Behçet's syndrome and that TB had many similarities to the sero-negative arthritides. So, is the response to a tuberculous infection dominantly an immunologically mediated auto-aggressive disorder? The premise that cancer occurred in the wake of active, focal, immune suppression grew out of this. All this clinical conjecture was largely in place before the more specific conjectures about the immune mechanisms were developed.
